| James P. Boylan |
My name is JP Boylan and I am in the business of getting people on their bikes. I originally got into cycling through racing. While I still do race, I am now becoming interested in reintegrating the bicycle into the "American Lifestyle". I feel that the bicycle as a form of transportation, exercise, recreation and competition is one of the most viable solutions to the many problems of American today. Obesity, Pollution, Stress, Global Warming, Now that I've preached my motivations I'll get off the soapbox and tell you how I hope to add to your riding enjoyment.
I grew up in Dearborn, Michigan; graduated from University of Michigan with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and a MS in Biomedical Engineering (concentration in Biomechanics, so it's at least partially justifiable). Since then I have moved to Boulder Colorado to enjoy an outdoor oriented lifestyle. I worked a year as a framebuilder with DEAN bicycles here in Boulder and consider that my apprenticeship. I am taking my experience at DEAN and applying my substantial engineering education to the framebuilding process. I aim to make bikes that customers will want to show off by riding daily. Exciting paintjobs, exacting craftsmanship, and a good bike/rider fit are my foci.
Currently, I am building TIG'ed steel and aluminum bikes from Columbus steel tubing and Easton aluminum tubing I will soon be working with titanium and am quite excited about that. For most of the riders out there titanium offers a lifetime frame at a relatively light weight. The only obstacle currently attached to titanium is the material price. Frame prices are dependent upon the tubeset and detail of paint chosen.
All frames will be built with 1 1/8" headtubes unless you must absolutely have 1". The exception being aero frames, which are all built to 1" unless otherwise requested. My frames are all painted by spectrum powdercoatings (good stuff! check out the Spectrum website for possibilities)
If you are wondering about the company name, JP is short for James Patrick thus the catchy little name. My wife came up with that one… Well, technically my parents came up with it years ago. Thanks!
